Launched in 2022, our Museum's travelling exhibition project Uniting Russia: From the Tsarskoe Selo Railway to the Great Siberian Way arrives in the city of Nizhny Novgorod.

It's the sixth stop on the project's tour. Earlier visited by over 43,000 and received in Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen, the exhibition on Russia's first and last pre-1917 railways follows the route Nicholas II took on the way back from his Eastern journey, which he made at 22 years of age as Grand Duke and Tsesarevich (crown prince) in 1890-91. The project is run together with the Russian Railway Museum and Russia's State Archive, and mainly sponsored by Russian Railways. A special treat for visitors is the VR project Imperial Train Journey.

The State Art Museum of Nizhny Novgorod houses the exhibition 2 March to 26 May. The local highlights on display are the models of four railway termini of Nizhny Novgorod, including the Imperial Pavilion built specially for Nicholas II's visit in May 1896 when the city hosted the 16th All-Russia industrial and art exhibition.

Other artefacts include over 100 objects from the collections of Tsarskoe Selo, the Russian Railway Museum and the Lenfilm Movie Studio: paintings, graphics, photographs, documents (including those with marginal notes handwritten by Nicholas), uniforms, commemorative signs, applied arts objects related to imperial trips, railway construction and work materials, as well as models of trains and rail cars. Over 100 scanned documents and photographs are provided by Russia's State Archive and the Russian State Historical Archive.

Additionally, a series of talks and movie shows related to the project's theme is available at a local cultural centre.
