As 2024 marks 110 years since the start of World War I and 10 years since the opening of the Russia in the Great War museum at the Martial Chamber of Tsarskoe Selo, the two events are commemorated with The Great War 1914 military history festival during the weekend of 3 and 4 August.
The festival gives a chance to see some authentic WWI machinery and full-size mock-ups of WWI planes. A hundred historical re-enactors from the Preobrazhensky Regiment Society and other WWI societies of St Petersburg and Moscow will be demonstrating uniforms, equipment, and equestrian skills.
On Saturday 3 August, festival sites are open with free entry 11am to 5pm. The gala opening is at 1pm. Free open-air shows of films on early 20th-century aviation in the courtyard of the Martial Chamber at 4pm to 6pm.
On Sunday 4 August, festival sites are open with free entry 11am to 5pm.
Visitors are also welcome to join ticketed tours of the Martial Chamber, Russia's only museum dedicated to WWI and its tragic time in Russian history.
