The Russia in the Great War museum (WWI Museum) at the Martial Chamber of Tsarskoe Selo offers free entry on Sunday 23 February, Russia's Defender of the Fatherland Day.
Additionally, Saturday 22 February: Defenders of the Fatherland: The History of Tsarskoe Selo, a one-hour lecture by our museum's head of military history department on Russia's and Tsarskoe Selo's war heroes of various historical times. Entry by Museum Ticket. Registration required
The Martial Chamber of Tsarskoe Selo is Russia's first museum of World War One. Its foundation was laid by Emperor Nicholas II.
Dedicated to the particularly tragic period in history, our Russia in the Great War museum gathered nearly 2,000 artefacts from all over the country and abroad. Various weapons, uniforms, medals, photographs and documents illustrate some of the most important events and military operations of that period, as well as the heroism of Russian imperial officers and soldiers.
Particularly noteworthy:
- Uniforms of Russia's last imperial family;
- Exact replica of French Nieuport 17 fighter;
- Authentic Ford T automobile of ca. 1908-14;
- Several howitzers and an armoured car;
- Superbly crafted replicas of clothing, footwear and ammunition of British and Scottish infantry regiments generously provided by Sir Peter Jackson, a famous New Zealand director.
Martial Chamber is open Thursday–Tuesday 10am–6pm (last entry 5pm). Closed on Wednesdays, and on the last Thursday of each month November through March. Address: 5A Farm Road, Pushkin.
