Scientific Conference

21.10.2026

Tsarskoe Selo's 3rd 'Martial Tradition' Scientific Conference was held at the nineteenth-century architectural complex of Imperial Farm on 19th and 20th October.

Focused on the 250th anniversary of Life-Guards Cossack Regiments quartered in Tsarskoe Selo, as well as the Peoples Unity Year in Russia, the conference included nearly forty papers covering a wide range of topics such as the history of the Cossacks, their military units, Cossack museums, maritime expeditions and service at the imperial court, as well as their imagery, traditional attire, relics, and regalia.

A true melting pot, the Cossacks, as a specialized social estate, at various times included members of many different peoples from all over the country, says Mr Dmitry Klochkov, Head of Tsarskoe Selo Military History Department. Special attention was given to the Cossacks who earned high honors and performed heroic acts in wartime. The conference proceedings are to be published.

Besides the conference programme, the participants enjoyed our guided tours of Imperial Farm, Pensioners' Stable, and the Russian Fleet in the Great War exhibition at Martial Chamber.
